Charlotte Bateup - School Principal

Charlotte is a proud Guildfordian and a professional dancer and performer. She trained at the prestigious Laine Theatre Arts where she was awarded a National Diploma in Musical Theatre as well as gaining her ISTD teaching qualification in Modern Theatre Dance and Ballet.

After graduating Charlotte was lucky enough to start a career as a professional dancer on some of the largest cruise liners in the world. Since 2009 when she started her career with Princess Cruises she worked her way up and became Company Manager where her duties, as well as performing, included managing the cast of singers and dancers and all the logistics of maintaining a happy and hard working company.

Princess Cruises has some of the most elaborate and high end shows that are available on water and in 2014 Charlotte was asked by the company to become one of their teachers. This role included casting new performers and then teaching the show and installing it on to the ships.

Now home, Charlotte is over the moon to become principle of Guildford Fringe Performing Arts.

“We all know that there is plenty to chose from when it comes to stage schools in Guildford but I really feel that myself and the director of Guildford Fringe, Nick Wyschna, have managed to create something really different. I am looking forward to giving our students a true insight into the industry of the arts by introducing them to the actors, dancers and performers that are currently in the midst of their careers working in the West End, on national and international tours.”

Matthew Serafini - Workshop Leader

Matthew Serafini trained at GSA. Most recently Matthew made his West End debut in the Ensemble of ‘Matilda the Musical’, also understudying the Escapologist and Sergei. Matthew is originally from Sydney, Australia. He has travelled the world in his career, making his name as a truly international performer. He started out as a dancer working with names such as Michael Jackson, Taylor Swift and Paula Abdul. He then went on to play Andy Warhol in the Australian arena tour of ‘The Boy From Oz’ starring Hugh Jackman. Further credits in Australia include ‘Shout the Musical’ and ‘Priscilla Queen of the Desert the Musical’. Following a successful run of ‘Billy Elliot the Musical’ in Australia, Matthew transferred with the production to Broadway and the First National US and Canadian tour. After living in the US for a few years, Matthew decided to move to the UK to re-train at GSA. There he focussed his attention on acting and performed in various plays. Matthew was selected to represent GSA at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre at the Sam Wanamaker Festival
