Talking Heads: Her Big Chance and A Lady of Letters
Thursday 7 and Friday 8 March
Alan Bennett’s sharp writing and masterful observation of humanity are demonstrated in two of his Talking Heads, presented by Creaction Theatre Company, with Jackie Morris and Jules Hall.
Jackie Morris plays Lesley, an aspiring actress who finds what she naively believes to be her big break in a new film for the West German marketin Her Big Chance. Jules Hall plays the part of an obsessive letter writer who imagines she’s a public-spirited guardian of morals but overdoes accusations of misconduct in A Lady of Letters. Both of these wonderful short plays are directed by Keith McDonald.
This is a repeat performance of Creaction’s acclaimed showing of these monologues in July 2018 in the Pavilion at Clandon Wood Natural Burial Reserve as part of the Guildford Fringe Festival. This past production received high praise and much demand to return to Guildford, so here they are!
Part of the Guildford Fringe Weeks director of the Fringe says ‘I love that we can open our doors to such amazing local talent. I saw this production at Guildford Fringe Festival last year and we all wanted it back as soon as possible!’
As in July 2018, the monologues are performed with surround seating. This arrangement, says McDonald, is ideal. “The plays were written for television, with the actor speaking close up to the viewer. Some years ago, I presented these plays in a proscenium theatre, and did not like the separation of the actors from the audience. In The Back Room of The Star Inn we have the audience seated round the actors on three sides, close to them, interacting with them, giving much more intimacy.”
These Talking Heads will be performed on the 7 and 8 March at 8pm at The Back Room of The Star Inn, Guildford. Tickets are priced at £12 and are on sale from the Fringe Box Office on 01483 361101 or BOOK HERE
