GUILDFORD, you’re in for a treat.  Award-winning Guildford-based writer Paul Kerensa is bringing not one, but two merry offerings to the Back Room of the Star Inn on Friday, December 7.

Get your evening off to a cracking start with Three Wise Men: A Christmas Playfollowed by his festive stand-up show, Comedy and Carols. And what’s more, as it’s the season to be jolly, Guildford Fringe are giving you a discount if you book for both shows.

Back by popular demand after debuting at Guildford Fringe Festival this year, this astonishing untold true story of the making of modern Christmas, Three Wise Menis from the co-writer of BBC’s Miranda, Not Going Outand Top Gear.

1843: An Englishman, a German and an American walk into a cabin – and come out with the blueprint for today’s Christmas.  Charles Dickens, Prince Albert and Washington Irving are Queen Victoria’s three wise men – but as they bring trees, turkey, snow and Santa in from the cold, there are ghosts to be dealt with first…

Presented as a radio play, this hilarious historical play is from Paul Kerensa; the award-winning Guildford-based writer behind TV’s Buble at the BBC, The Royal Variety Performance and TFI Friday– and is sure to put you in the festive spirit (or at least make your cheeks red).

Once in Guildford’s lovely city (is it a city?), stood a lowly comedian, with a sackful of stand-up and singalong carols.  O come all ye festive mirth-makers, to a show packed with Christmassy comedic joy.

That’s right. After performing his Christmas play, Paul will loiter at The Star Inn before returning to the stage with his festive stand-up show Comedy and Carols.

Paul has toured this feel-good Christmas favourite for the past decade, to theatres, cathedrals and pubs.  Now he’s followed the star… to The Star!

Paul won ITV’s Take The Mike Award in 2002 and is the only person to appear on both London’s Comedy Store stage and Radio 2’s Pause For Thoughton Chris Evans’ Breakfast Show.

His books include So a Comedian Walks Into a Church, which The Independent rated one of their top eight books for Christmas, plus last year’s Hark! The Biography of Christmas, which became an Amazon top 100 bestseller.

We like a bargain – tickets are £10 each (+booking fees) or if you book for both Paul’s shows, you’ll receive £5 off! Just use the code DOUBLEBILL to receive your festive discount. You need to book for full price tickets for them play and then use the discount code when booking for Comedy and Carols.

Don’t forget: as Part of Guildford Fringe’s Christmas Season, you can also enjoy Guildford’s Adult Panto: Peter Pan and the Loose Boys (November 29 – January 5), Guildford Gag House Comedy Club (December 14) and Nick Wyschna and Friends (December 21).
