BACK by popular demand after previous Guildford sell-outs, local company Lucky Dog Theatre Productions celebrate everyone’s favourite comedy double-act, as they present The Laurel & Hardy Cabaret on Saturday, September 23 in the Back Room of The Star Inn as part of Guildford Fringe End of Summer Season.
It’s been half a century since Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy died. There is good reason why they are the best-loved comedy duo of all time. They were the pioneers of modern comedy and their movies have delighted generation after generation for almost 100 years.
Guildford actors Tony Carpenter and Philip Hutchinson are widely regarded as the best and most innovative Laurel and Hardy re-enactors in the world: for years they have been recreating the routines from the movies and music halls.
The Laurel & Hardy Cabaret explores the story of the lives and loves of the iconic comedy duo. From their very different beginnings to their meteoric rise to fame, the play tells their story in a funny, touching, yet bittersweet way.
In true Laurel and Hardy fashion there will be plenty of slapstick to bring smiles to even the sternest faces.
Guildford Fringe attendees will remember Lucky Dog for their previous productions of Mr Merrick, The Elephant Man, Bethnal Green and, of course, their award-winning performance of Hats Off to Laurel & Hardy. If you are lucky enough to have seen the latter production, then there’s no doubt that you’re going to love this new revue, full of the duo’s routines, songs and dances.
Just sit back, relax, and have a hard-boiled egg and some nuts.
