We chat with Andrew Franklin (Strong Boner in Pinocchio Gets Wood!)

September 8, 2020

Andrew Franklin, who plays the evil baddy Strong Boner as well as other roles in the show, trained at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts. He is delighted to be making his professional debut in Pinocchio Gets Wood.

Tell us a bit about your three characters in this show:

“Strong Boner is the villain of the piece who is planning to take over the whole town in an attempt to catch the attention of Juliet who he is more than fond of. He definitely likes his own jokes way more than anyone else does.”

What are you most looking forward to?

“Considering how uncertain our industry currently is, it’s so exciting to be able to get together with a group of people and perform a piece of theatre that is so unique in its own way.”

How will the digital delivery of the show affect your preparation and performance?

“It will definitely make me consider the acting choices I make to not only make an audience understand and connect with me over a screen but also to make sure I don’t lose the iconic essence of the style of pantomime.”

Is this the first time you have experienced adult panto?

“This is my first time experiencing an adult panto! So, I’m definitely excited to get this first one under my belt.”

When you’re not on stage, what do you most enjoy and how have recent months been for you?

“I really enjoy watching football (I support Chelsea FC) and when I’m not doing that I can generally be found playing Xbox with my pals.

“It’s been a really testing few months both personally and professionally but I’ve learnt that sometimes it’s alright to take some time for yourself to recharge and set new goals. I count myself so lucky that I can look forward to performing a piece of theatre when currently those opportunities can be so limited. The main thing I’d say is that there’s no point comparing yourself with everyone you see on social media – everyone’s on their own journey in life!”

Pinocchio Gets Wood runs from 10-12 September ONLINE!
